Carol Grant

Chair

Carol moved to Hampton in 1989 and became a Trustee in 2004 and Chairman in 2020.

Role in charity
As chairman, Carol is ex-officio member of all sub-committees.  Also, she helps organise the Seniors Day Club every week

Career
Carol worked for the NEC as a tax accountant involved with special projects including the rejuvenation of Broad Street in Birmingham.  Latterly she has been self employed preparing accounts for various organisations.

Charitable activities
Carol has been a committee member of the village Mother & Toddler Group, Pre School, PTA (primary and senior school), the Scout and Guide Association and the Tennis Club and is currently a committee member of Hampton Society.   Carol is also a trustee for her son’s charity The Cameron Grant Memorial Trust.

Qualifications
BA Joint Hons in Economics and Geography, Member of the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers and qualified in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training.

Hobbies
Carol is a keen tennis player and member of Hampton Tennis Club where she has represented them in the Coventry tennis league.  She has also climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and trekked to Everest Base Camp to raise money for the Cameron Grant Memorial Trust.  Carol is also a member of the Hampton Wine Society.

Tim Beresford

Tim has lived in Hampton-in-Arden his entire life and is married to Sallyann, with whom he has four children (although technically the older two are now adults!)

Role in charity
Tim joined the Trust in July 2017 and became Vice Chairman in 2020.   Tim serves on the Fentham Green, Fentham Hall, project funding and the investment sub-committees. In addition to this, Tim has overall responsibility for the general repair of the Trust’s property. 

Career
Tim is a dual qualified Chartered Surveyor and Tax Adviser and is the joint owner of a specialist property tax consultancy that operates nationwide.

Charitable activities
Tim is currently Vice Chair of Hampton-in-Arden Parish Council – where he chairs the maintenance sub-committee, a Governor at George Fentham School – where he chairs the Finance, Sites and Buildings sub-committee, and a member of The Hampton Festival organisation committee.

Qualifications
Tim is a Chartered Surveyor and qualified member of the Association of Tax Technicians, he has a BSc in Quantity Surveying and a Diploma in Property Investment from the University of Reading

Hobbies
In his spare time Tim enjoys cooking, walking, spending time with his family and supporting Birmingham City FC. He is also a longstanding member of the Hampton Gym – although his attendance is possibly not as great as it should be (as Lauren, his daughter, constantly reminds him).

Charlie Rickard

Charlie and his family moved to Hampton in 2007 and he became a Trustee in 2018.

Role in charity
He is Treasurer to the Trust and member of the project funding and investment sub-committees.

Career
He has over 20 years’ experience in a wide variety of roles and sectors in industry and the finance profession.  After 5 years at KPMG primarily advising on mergers and acquisitions, Charlie has focussed on Private Equity and global corporate business.  Experience includes care homes, retirement villages, charities, turnaround, corporate finance and most recently industrial property development, fund and investment management.

Charitable activities
In addition to the George Fentham Trust, Charlie helps run the Hampton Sports Club and is involved in his employer’s charitable fund raising, community and environmental sustainability activities.

Qualifications
Charlie is a Chartered Accountant, FCA, member of the ICAEW and has a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance from the University of Birmingham.

Hobbies
He is a keen sportsman, playing tennis, occasional hockey and cricket.   Charlie supports Manchester City FC and has at the heart of his life, his wife Sarah and two sons Flynn and Gabriel.

Daniel Adams

Daniel Adams

Daniel grew up in Hampton attending the local school for a time and has lived in the village for over 30 years. Daniel has always been a member of the sports club and has many friends and family members who live in the village.

Role in charity
He was appointed a trustee of the George Fentham Trust in April 2016 and is on the education and project funding sub-committees and works on the Arboretum and land that the GFT owns.  Daniel has spent time with the students who receive grants helping them complete their community service hours.

Career
He has generally worked in the Voluntary sector throughout his career; starting his full time work in America and Canada in his early 20s.  Since 2002 he has been the manager of Newlands Bishop Farm – a project based in Catherine de Barnes working with adults with learning disabilities, brain injuries and mental health problems.  In more recent years Daniel has become the General Manager of the Family Care Trust a local charity that oversees Newlands Bishop Farm and other projects in the local community – predominantly working with adults with dementia and learning disabilities.

Charitable activities
He is the General Manager of a local Charity and works closely with a number of voluntary organisations in Solihull.  Daniel has completed a number of fundraising events over the past few years including mud runs, charity bike rides and triathlons.

Qualifications
BSc Hons Land Management, BA Social Work, Post Graduate Diploma in Practice Teaching.

Hobbies
When he is not working he enjoys playing and watching a wide variety of sports and activities including; skiing, snowboarding, climbing, rugby, football, cricket & racquetball.  Daniel enjoys spending time with his family and friends – often at the sports club in Hampton!

Sarah White

Sarah White

Sarah has lived in Hampton in Arden since 1993. She has three children who all attended Goerge Fentham School and Sarah was a Parent Governor for several years. She is currently Secretary of the Hampton in Arden Society. Sarah has been an active member of the Tennis Club and is a keen member of several other village societies and has many friends in the village.

Role in charity

Sarah became a Trustee in 2023. She sits on the Almshouse and Community Care Committees.

Career

Sarah obtained a BA Hons in Medical Science from Cambridge University in 1985 qualifying as a Doctor (MB BChir, Cambridge University) in 1988. She obtained Membership of the Royal College of Physicians in 1991 and Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists in 1997. She worked as a Consultant Radiologist at Heartlands and Solihull Hospitals/UHB from 2000 until retirement in 2021.

Sarah was heavily involved in training junior Radiologists in the West Midlands for many years acting as Training Programme Director of the West Midlands Radiology Training Scheme and then Head of the Postgraduate School of Radiology. She was also an active member of the Royal College of Radiologists and appointed to the Faculty and Specialty Training Boards. Sarah became Associate Dean for Quality of Training at West Midlands Deanery.

Hobbies

Sarah enjoys gardening and has recently acquired an allotment. She sings with Hampton Singers. Since retiring she has been trying to learn French and Spanish and enjoys travel.

Alison Fisher

Alison lives in Solihull and has been a Trustee since 2014. She is the Justices of Solihull Appointee.

Role in charity
Alison sits on the investment and Fentham Green sub-committees as well as focusing on the charity’s governance and documentation.

Career
Alison worked in IT and Finance in the private sector for over 25 years, latterly as UK Business Manager for CSC, a large global IT provider. She currently holds multiple non-executive and lay positions including being a board member of Bromsgrove District Housing Trust and Bournville Village Trust.

Charitable activities
She has been involved in community fundraising for over 30 years, primarily for the NSPCC and Cancer Research UK.

Hobbies
Watching rugby, going to the theatre and supporting Birmingham Royal Ballet.

Glyn Ryland

Glyn Ryland

Glyn has lived in Hampton since 1999 (and in Barston for a few years before that).  His children went to the George Fentham School.  He became a Trustee in 2020.

Role in charity

Glyn serves on the investment and project funding sub-committees.

Career

After qualifying in Cardiff in 1988, Glyn worked as a lawyer in London, then Hong Kong.  He moved to Birmingham, became a partner at Pinsents and then was head of pensions at Gowling (formerly Wragge & Co) from 1999 until April 2020, when he retired as a lawyer.  He’s now a Director of The Trustee Corporation Limited, which provides trustee services to pension funds.  He does some freelance consultancy, and some English teaching.

Charitable activities

Glyn is a trustee of the International Longevity Centre (a think tank which funds policy research).  Inter-generational fairness and the impacts of the pandemic policies on different generations are currently the big issues.

Qualifications

Glyn has a law degree from Aberystwyth and took the Law Society Finals at The College of Law in London.  He qualified as a solicitor in 1988 (England & Wales) and 1992 (Hong Kong) and completed a course at Harvard (leadership of professional service firms) in 2006.  He obtained the CELTA qualification in 2019 at Warwick University (as an English teacher).  In June 2020, Glyn passed the PMI exams to become an Accredited Trustee.

Hobbies

Glyn has played in local bands (including performances at the Sports Club and Fentham Hall).  He enjoys walking, skiing, drinking wine (and beer in the White Lion), and occasional sailing.

Jo Oswald

Jo has lived in Hampton since 2002. She has two children and has been involved with various village organisations as they have grown up, including the pre-school and the tennis club.

Role in charity
Jo became a trustee in 2018 and currently serves on the communications, Fentham Hall and Arboretum subcommittees

Career
Jo holds a BSc in Physics from Nottingham University and is a qualified Chartered Accountant and a Chartered Tax Advisor, having trained with Arthur Andersen and subsequently worked for Ernst & Young in the UK and Canada. She has recently re-trained as a software developer and works part time for a law firm based in Bristol.

Charitable activities
Jo is Treasurer of the Hampton-in-Arden Sports Club and has previously been Treasurer and Safeguarding Officer for the Tennis Club and Treasurer of the Hampton-in-Arden pre-school.

Alison Rolf

Alison Rolf

Alison has lived in Hampton-in-Arden since 2000. Having previously served on the parish council for five and half years, she was voted on to the Solihull Council in May 2014. She joined the Trust in January of 2017.

Role in charity
Alison is a member of the Fentham Green and Community Care sub-committees.

Career
Alison is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Legal Executives and works for Silverback Law in Redditch.  Alison specialises in Family Law.  Alison was until 2022 one of the three ward Councillors for the Bickenhill ward under Solihull MBC and a Cabinet Member for Stronger Neighbourhoods and Partnerships.

Charitable activities
She was previously a member of the founding group for the Hampton Festival and each year helps to marshall the Cameron Grant Trust Night Walk.  Previously, she was involved with Victim Support helping with fundraising and setting up the Witness Support Service at Stratford Upon Avon Court. She Is proud to be a member of the George Fentham Trust and want to help continue the invaluable work they do

Qualifications
As previously set out, Alison is a Legal Executive.  She previously passed ‘O’ and ‘A’ Levels at school.

Hobbies
Alison likes to keep fit and is a member of a gym where she swims regularly and uses the gym.  She also runs, having completed 3 Half Marathons, one in support of the Cameron Grant Trust.  Alison ran the London Marathon in 2021, raising over £4,000 for the Soldiers’ Charity, running numerous half marathons as part of her training.

Alison likes to read and watch rugby matches with her family.

Sally Jarratt

Sally has lived in the village on and off for 24 years, most recently returning in 2006 just before having her first child.

Role in charity

Sally is the Clerk and deals with the day to day running of the charity.

Career

Sally has worked in the Travel Industry, most recently in the Finance department of a growing travel business managing the accounts payable and receivable functions.  Before having her two children she was an Account Manager looking after the travel needs for a number of corporate clients.

Charitable activities

Sally ran the Tiny Tots group at the village church when her children were preschool age.  During the hockey season she coaches the junior hockey sessions on a Sunday morning and arranges the teenage team Badger’s matches on Saturdays.  In the summer she is a scorer for the junior cricket teams.

Qualifications

City and Guilds Management Certificate in Travel Management, Cardiff Metropolitan University HND in Business and Finance, Lincolnshire College of Further Education BTEC Travel and Tourism.

Hobbies

Sally enjoys playing tennis at the Hampton Sport Club and relaxes by practicing yoga.  She has a keen interest in travel having toured extensively, visiting a number of far flung destinations.
